Leadership Message – Issue Nineteen

Dear God,
Grant our teachers an abundance of Your wisdom.

Prepare their hearts to welcome and love our loved ones,

and may we make sure to show them love and respect in return.

Give them grace as they help students who aren’t thriving, courage to say what needs to be said, tools and knowledge on how and when to speak love,

and strength when they feel weak.

When they feel unseen, remind them that no moment goes unnoticed.

They are shaping the future in one million small

– yet incredibly important – ways every day.

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the gift of learning they share with our children.

Bless them, Lord, and may they see even just a glimpse of how their faithfulness will forever impact generations to come.

Amen

Principal’s Message

World Teachers’ Day

Australia will celebrate and thank the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day on Friday 29 October 2021.  World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organisation/United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ILO/UNESCO) Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges in 2020 and 2021. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.

Please take the time to say thank you to a teacher or two this Friday as they prepare for the home stretch to the end of the year.

Leadership Team Message

Year 6 Camp

WOW! Each time I get to spend time with the current Year 6 group I can’t help but think how much this group of students have grown in maturity and into solid young people. Our Year 6 students didn’t let the weather stop their sense of enjoyment, enthusiasm or willingness to participate in their activities. The weather cleared and it was fantastic to hear very positive comments from the camp activity leaders about our students’ politeness, willingness to answer questions and willingness to participate in activities to the fullest.

Year 6 Student Leadership 2022

Our Year 5 students are busy preparing their speeches for the upcoming elections. From what I’ve seen of some of the Year 5 students’ speeches, a lot of time and effort is going into them. We are looking forward to these speeches which mark another milestone in our students’ journey into Year 6.

OLA School Fete

We were blessed with superb weather for our OLA School Fete on Sunday, it had been a long time coming, with the planning for this day beginning in 2018, postponement in 2019, and finally being able to celebrate the day together on Sunday. We had an awesome turnout with what looked to be most of our families and many visitors in attendance.

As well as the rides and food, we were treated to performances from current and ex-OLA students who either rocked out (Mammoth!), sang or danced. All of these performances that you may have seen were voluntary, thank you one and all (including the roadies who tirelessly helped set up and pack down)!

We had such a great variety of things to see and do, there was something for everyone. From lamas, to the silent disco, art activities, glitter tattoos, aromatherapy, bouncy castles, slushies, white elephant stall, a dunk tank and plenty of food and drink options.

The raffles and silent auctions were all a great success, with uncollected prizes being held in the office.

These events don’t organise themselves and they certainly don’t run themselves. The P&F were supported by an army of volunteers who manned stalls, made donations, collected items, painted faces, baked cakes and assisted in a myriad of other ways. Deanna Marocchi and her crew of P&F volunteers have done a super job of coordinating the preparation and running of the day.

On behalf of the school community, I’d like to firstly extend thanks to the P&F for coordinating this huge task and then to every single person, who in any way contributed to making the day the great success that it was. The smiles on the kids’ faces go to show that all the effort was worth it.

Plastic Free Lunchbox Day

The Sustainability Club has been working hard to set up initiatives in the school to reduce the waste that is going into landfill unnecessarily, and to improve our recycling system. In Term 3, the club successfully implemented a better paper recycling system for the whole school. In Term 4, we would like to introduce a plastic free lunchbox day, commencing this Friday 29 October. Every Friday morning, lunchboxes will be opened to check, and class tallies will be made to record the total of plastic free lunchboxes each class has recorded. A prize will then be given to the class with the best score. Please help your child to be a part of this initiative. It is hoped that in 2022, our lunchboxes will be completely plastic free every day of the week. We can all do our bit to reduce the amount of plastic that is going into landfill. Thank you for your support!

Both Mrs Carbone and Mrs Capolingua come to us with a wealth of experience, we are excited for their arrival.
