Leadership Message – Issue Three
Mar 3, 2022
Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter.
Lent should be more than a time of fasting – it should also be a joyous season of feasting. Lent is a time to fast from certain things and to feast on others.
The Fast Life
Fast from judging others;
Feast on Christ dwelling in them.
Fast from fear of illness;
Feast on the healing power of God.
Fast from words that pollute;
Feast on speech that purifies.
Fast from discontent;
Feast on gratitude.
Fast from anger;
Feast on patience.
Fast from pessimism;
Feast on hope.
Fast from negatives;
Feast on encouragement.
Fast from bitterness;
Feast on forgiveness.
Fast from self-concern;
Feast on compassion.
Fast from suspicion;
Feast on truth.
Fast from gossip;
Feast on purposeful silence.
Fast from problems that overwhelm;
Feast on prayer that sustains.
Fast from anxiety;
Feast on faith.
Amen.
Ash Wednesday
Wednesday 2 March, marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a special time in our Church and School Community where we think about the mystery of Jesus’ life and death. We also renew our commitment in the Lord and show this by our efforts to talk with Jesus in prayer, to turn away from sin and to care for those in need. This is the time for change; to turn our hearts back to God. We are a community, we are the people of God, we are the Church. Ash Wednesday is a time to gather our thoughts as we prepare for our journey during the Lenten period.
Due to the current Covid–19 protocols, Liturgies will be held in the classrooms and staff, who are special ministers will be distributing (sprinkling) the ashes at these liturgies. The start of Lent also marks the start of Project Compassion. Project Compassion is an extraordinary, ongoing demonstration of the faith, love and generosity of caring supporters, all in the name of justice and peace. The theme for Project Compassion 2022 is ‘For all Future Generations’. Project Compassion Money Boxes will be sent home to each family next week.
Throughout Project Compassion 2022, inspiring stories from around the world will be shared, via the Caritas website, highlighting the importance of working hand in hand with communities around the world. You can view these stories at https://lent.caritas.org.au/
Two’s Day 22-2-22
The students of OLA had a wonderful time celebrating Two’s Day- a once in a lifetime event when only the number 2 appeared in the date and it fell on the 2nd day of the week- Tuesday!
Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of activities- from skip counting into the hundreds, rap song creation, investigating the properties of the number 2 and our Year 2s recreated a large number 2. Who knew the number 2 could be so much fun?
Out two-riffic staff also got involved in the fun by wearing tutus for the day!
COVID-19 Update
Family Covid-19 Isolation: A number of OLA families have requested information on how to best quarantine and isolate, information on COVID testing and also where the COVID clinics are located. Please see the link below from the Health Department site providing this information.
The staff at OLA understand this is a very difficult time and our current COVID situation can cause stress and worry due to uncertainty. Please be assured that we are here to help and support our school community in the best way possible. The Health Department website has useful resources and information – see the link below: https://www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/A_E/Coronavirus/Quarantine-and-isolation
