Welcome to Our Lady’s Assumption School
As the principal of Our Lady’s Assumption School (OLA), I warmly welcome you to our wonderful school. I have been at OLA since 2018 and witnessed a change in culture, teaching pedagogy as well as an increase in student achievements, ensuring we’re catering for the needs of all students, to the best of our ability. ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ and this is the approach we have taken at OLA, a whole school approach to the way we learn, communicate and educate our students.

Did you know a hippo’s 🦛 sweat acts as a natural sunscreen to block the sun’s 🔆 harmful rays? Or that the banded archerfish 🐟 will shoot down its prey (insects) by spitting water at it?
Yesterday it was the Yr 2’s turn to explore Scitech and WOW did they learn a lot!
The students gained new knowledge of how nature has influenced our world, became forensic scientists 🔎🧪 where they had to decipher clues to discover ‘Who stole the missing lunch?’ and explored what it’s like to be an astronaut 👨🚀🚀
What an absolute blast 💥 of a day! ... See MoreSee Less

#MKR at OLA Part 1
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Manu, Colin or Nigella then give us your critique on our very own My Kitchen Rules (MKR) “contestants” 😜
This term the Year 6 students have been busy applying themselves creatively across a range of different learning areas including Writing, Speaking and Listening, Design and Technology and Health.
As part of their MKR project, students had to write a procedure for a recipe of their choice that will be published in the Year 6 MKR Cookbook. They then had to create a video of themselves following this procedure, whilst demonstrating appropriate safety, food handling and hygiene in the kitchen 👩🏻🍳 🧑🏻🍳
The highlight was serving up 🍽 their delicious creations for their classmates to taste test! There was a range of savoury and sweets from all different cultures 🍰🌮🧇🍪🫔
A big thank you 💕 to the parents for their support with this task and for allowing their kids to get in the kitchen, gain some independence and learn something new (even if they made a huge mess!) 🫣
The MKR task is always a hit with the Yr 6’s and it's not hard to see why! 🙏 to Miss Versace and Mr McIntyre for coordinating this project with the students. ... See MoreSee Less

Yesterday the Yr 5’s spent a fun-filled day visiting the Shipwreck Museum ⚓ in Fremantle to discover more about the British settlement in WA.
Students took part in a role play activity, walked around Bathers Beach and the Round House Tunnel to learn about Walyalup (Fremantle) from a Nyoongar and British perspective.
The students then indulged in some fish ‘n’ chips 🐟 🍟 from the iconic Cicerello's. Lucky ducks!! ... See MoreSee Less

They also participated in a mock election at the ‘polling place’ 🗳where they had to cast a vote… on their favourite chocolate 🍫 😂

On Monday, 10 of our Year 5 and 6 students spent the day (and some of the night) at school to Write a Book in a Day 📖☀️🌑
After receiving their “rules” at 8am, the team OLA Writing Warriors got to work! With lots of creative chatter and brainstorming about a plot, characters, settings and resolutions, the group planned, wrote, illustrated and published ‘Runaway Ruby’ all within 12 hours!
Well done to the students for powering through what was a marathon day 👊👊👊
Huge thank you 🙏 to Mrs Tollis who coordinated and guided the group from 8am-8pm.

If you’ve read All Monkeys Love Bananas 🍌🐒, Happy as a Hog Out of Mud 🐗 or Frank’s Red Hat 🐧 to name a few, then you would be familiar with writer-illustrator Sean E Avery .
We kicked off #BookWeek2023 yesterday with a visit from Sean, which included a fun drawing masterclass. The students learnt how to draw some of the characters from his books, while adding their own creative flair.
Sean shared some tips and tricks including how a character’s expression can change the feeling of a story and the reader’s interpretation.
Thanks for visiting us Sean 😀 ... See MoreSee Less
